A Prayer from a Young Heart
I married at the age of 20. I remember praying and asking God for a home, children, and the ability to stay home with them one day.
At the time, I had no idea how any of that would come together… but God did.
When I Took Matters Into My Own Hands
It’s funny how God works—because so many times, I simply couldn’t see it.
I remember one season when we had to pay taxes, and I took it upon myself (yes… another moment of trying to take control) to figure it out. I didn’t even talk to my husband about it—I just went out and found a second job doing medical transcription.
If you’re not familiar with that kind of work, it is not easy! It was challenging, to say the least.
After we paid the taxes, I decided to keep the job to help out financially.
An Unexpected Turn
Fast forward a bit…
My parents sold us a couple of acres of land so we could build a house and live near them. While my husband and I were out clearing the land, I ended up with an outbreak from poison ivy over many parts of my body including my face.
So, off to the dermatologist I went.
While I was there, I asked my doctor (whom I had seen for years) if they needed someone to do their transcription work. Just like that, he said yes.
God Was Already Answering My Prayer
What I didn’t realize at the time of my poison ivy outbreak was that I was pregnant with my older daughter.
To be honest, when I found out I was pregnant—and realized I had taken prednisone for the rash—I worried about how it might affect her.
But God…
I continued working full-time while also doing transcription on the side. Then, around the fifth month of my pregnancy, I was able to leave my full-time job because the Lord blessed me with enough business with my transcription that it replaced my full-time income.
My daughter was born healthy and well.
Seeing His Faithfulness Clearly
And just like that…
The very thing I had prayed for years earlier was unfolding right in front of me.
I was able to be home.
I was able to care for my daughter.
God had made a way—step by step, in ways I never could have planned myself.
Looking back now, I can see His faithfulness in every detail. Even in the moments when I thought I had to figure everything out on my own… He was already working. I was reminded:
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose. Romans” 8:28 NIV
A Gentle Reminder
Sometimes we don’t see what God is doing in the midst of it all.
Sometimes we try to take control.
Sometimes it feels uncertain… or even a little scary.
But He is always faithful.
Always working.
Always making a way.
I’d Love to Hear From You
Can you think of a time when God answered a prayer in your life—maybe not in the way you expected, but in a way only He could?
I would truly love to hear your story.
Blessings,
Beth
